Andy Berke (born March 31, 1968) is an American attorney and Tennessee politician. He is the current Mayor of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is a member of the Democratic Party and represented Hamilton and Marion counties in the 10th District as State Senator from 2007 to 2012. On March 5, 2013, Andy Berke became Chattanooga's Mayor Elect, and was inaugurated on April 15, 2013.[2]
Berke was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Marvin and Karen Berke. He has one sister, Julie. He attended the Baylor School in Chattanooga, where he was a standout tennis player. Senator Berke currently lives in Chattanooga with his wife, Monique, and their two daughters, Hannah and Orly.After graduating from Baylor, Andy attended Stanford University. While at Stanford, he met his future wife, Monique. After graduating from Stanford with honors, Andy went to work for U.S. Congressman Bart Gordon as a legislative assistant.
Following his graduation from the University of Chicago Law School, he worked as a law clerk for Judge Deanell Reece Tacha of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in Lawrence, Kansas. During this time he also taught at the University of Kansas School of Law as an adjunct professor.
Andy returned home to Chattanooga and was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1994. He joined his family law practice in Chattanooga, which was founded in 1934 by his grandfather, the late Harry Berke.
Public office [edit]Andy has always been active in politics. He entered a 2007 special election to replace longtime state senator Ward Crutchfield and defeated Republican Oscar Brock, son of former U.S. Senator Bill Brock, with 63% to Brock's 37%.
He was sworn into the Tennessee Senate on November 21, 2007.
During the 105th General Assembly, Berke served as the secretary of the Senate Education Committee and as a member of the Senate Transportation Committee.

Berke won re-election on November 4, 2008 by defeating Republican Oscar Brock. After graduating from East Tennessee State University in 1980, he taught American History, Sociology and Contemporary Issues to eleventh and twelfth graders, and he also coached the boys' and girls' tennis teams, at Volunteer High School in Church Hill, Tennessee from 1980-87.
He then attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he graduated with high honors in 1990. Mr. Lype has practiced law in Chattanooga, Tennessee since 1990, except for a brief period in 1995-96 when he practiced law in Morristown, Tennessee. He has practiced law with large and mid-sized law firms, and he began his solo practice in Chattanooga in November, 2003.
Bob lives in Ooltewah, Tennessee (located just northeast of Chattanooga, and also adjacent to Collegedale, Tennessee) with his wife, Brenna, and their two sons, Bryson and Braden. Bryson and Braden are active in tennis, basketball, golf, and various other sports, as well as school activities. Bob and Brenna were also parents to Betsy, who was called home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2004, at the age of 15. Betsy was a unique blessing and will forever be an inspiration to her family, as well as to all who knew her.
