ORYWith offices in Edmonton, Calgary and Yellowknife, McLennan Ross is an established law firm committed to serving the legal needs of our clients in Alberta and the North.
Founded over 100 years ago, the McLennan Ross tradition of providing top quality, cost-effective legal services began in Edmonton with the founding of Wallbridge and Cairns. By World War II, the firm had grown to 10 lawyers including, W.S. (Stan) Ross, the first of three generations of Ross lawyers to serve under the firm’s banner.  In the early 1960s, Rod McLennan joined Stan Ross and the firm eventually became McLennan Ross (for details on the history of the firm's name click here).
The 1970s were a period of growth and influence. The firm acted for high profile clients including the Government of Alberta, Gainers, Keen Industries, Syncrude and the Alberta Housing Corporation. With these noteworthy clients and cases came increased media attention, recognition and growth. The firm established its reputation early as leaders in litigation and labour and employment law. Our work in these areas established and solidified our standing in the legal community. These practice areas served as the building blocks for future growth and today the firm boasts over 15 diverse practice areas.

In 1978, in order to be more accessible to our clients, the firm moved into the West Chambers building in Edmonton where we remain today. In the 1990s, McLennan Ross expanded by opening an office in downtown Calgary, followed by an office in Yellowknife, to serve our clients in those cities. McLennan Ross has grown to more than 70 lawyers and an extensive support staff.
Over the years, McLennan Ross legal professionals have been involved in numerous landmark cases at all levels of the Canadian judicial system, including the Supreme Court of Canada. McLennan Ross lawyers have established a reputation for aggressively and thoroughly pursuing their clients’ interests at every level of Canada’s judicial system.
What separates McLennan Ross from other law firms is our ability to see “beyond the law” – recognizing and appreciating how legal difficulties can significantly impact a client’s life and their business. Strategic thinking, grounded in a solid understanding of the realities of the business world and basic common sense, is a hallmark of McLennan Ross.
