Getting a job in today's job market is difficult. Increase your chances of obtaining employment, college admission, or professional license by having criminal charges removed from your criminal record. With background checks for employment becoming more frequent, many people discover an old charge from the past that hinders their career. A criminal charge does not "go away", or become expunged, on its own. The expungement process to remove the charge must be followed. Oftentimes people are charged with crimes and have their case dismissed, nolle prosequi, not guilty, no true bill, retired, pretrial diversion, or completed a 40-35-313 probation. The extra step of having these types of cases expunged (cleared) from your record may have been overlooked. Give yourself piece of mind by getting what you can off of your criminal history report.
UPDATE: Tennessee Legislature has passed a new law on July 1, 2012 that enables certain felony and misdemeanor charges to be eligible for expungements even if you plead or are found guilty. If you messed up one time in your life and have not been convicted of any charge since, you could still be able to have a clean public record.Michael K. Walker, Attorney at Law can help by running a background check and see if you are eligible to have any charges expunged from your public record. If you have an expungable charge on your record the background check fee will be used toward the price for getting your record expunged. Feel free to call regarding any questions you may have regarding this matter at 615-485-3065 or 931-292-2889 or email to

Walker, Tipps & Malone PLC was originally formed as Walker, Bryant & Tipps in January 2000 by eight civil litigation attorneys from a respected Nashville law firm who wanted to form a practice dedicated exclusively to civil litigation and trial work. The firm became known as Walker, Bryant, Tipps & Malone in May 2002 when Gayle Malone, a senior partner in the litigation group of another prominent Nashville law firm, joined the practice. In August 2006, John Bryant was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee, and the firm’s name was changed to Walker, Tipps & Malone PLC. In May 2010, Edward Yarbrough, former United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, joined the firm, adding criminal defense as an area of practice. Since its launch, Walker, Tipps & Malone PLC has earned an outstanding reputation as a quality litigation boutique whose attorneys strive to provide superior legal services to clients in Tennessee and nationwide.

Michael Norton concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, municipal bonds, corporate, securities, regulatory and state and local tax.
Additionally, Michael has extensive experience in the law as it applies to art and specifically the legal issues which arise from the deaccessioning of art by non-profit colleges and universities that intend to use the proceeds to support their general operations. As a result of this expertise, he has spoken at a number of seminars related to this topic. He has taught a legal seminar entitled “The Deaccession of Art Works from Museum Collections: Raising Funds, Donor Restrictions and the Public Interest.” He was also a speaker at the Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University on the same subject, at a conference of the Association of College and University Museums and Galleries. He also spoke and participated in a panel discussion on the issue of museum deaccessioning sponsored by the Columbia University Law School.
Michael was the legal counsel to the Tennessee Commissioner of Revenue from 1975 to 1978. While there, he served as staff counsel to the tax study committees of the Tennessee General Assembly, which re-wrote Tennessee’s inheritance and corporate income tax laws.
Michael and his wife, Susan, a licensed clinical social worker, have four grown children and five grandchildren.
In addition to spending time with his family, Michael has a particular interest in Nashville history. Two of his essays on that subject — one about Teddy Roosevelt’s trip to Nashville in 1907 and the other about Georgia O’Keefe’s gift of the Stieglitz Art Collection to Fisk University in 1949 — have been published in a book of essays from the Nashville Historical Newsletter.
Michael’s interest in Nashville history has also fueled a hobby of collecting vintage Nashville postcards. He has the largest existing collection, with more than 4,500 unique postcards, all of which have been indexed and digitized. He has donated a large number of vintage postcards to the Nashville Public Library, and these postcards are now located in Special Collections and identified as the Norton Postcard Collection.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys creating collage art works, primarily using postage stamps. This unusual type of art has won him several awards. In 2009, one of his works was named a Best in Show at the Cultural Arts Competition at the Tennessee State Fair.  In 2010, two of his artworks were selected, from more than 600 entries, to be among 50 artworks exhibited at the Northwest Art Center in Minot, N.D., as part of the annual Americas Paperworks Competition. Also in 2010, one of his art works won another first place in the open art competition at the Tennessee State Fair. Michael has also been selected for a solo exhibition of his works at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Tennessee, in 2013.
